What an action catalog is

What gets sent: that model’s real SCPI, with the action name kept as the comment.

Each supported model has a catalog of named operations, each carrying the real command for that model. “Measure DC voltage” on a Keithley DMM6500 and on a Keysight 34465A are the same named action with different commands behind them.

This is the mechanism that keeps TestFlow honest about instrument control. The agent picks action names, the catalog supplies the syntax, and an action name that is not in your instruments' catalogs is rejected before it reaches your workflow.

Instruments with no command catalog

Fully supported, by a different route.

Some hardware has no SCPI catalog at all: a modular switching chassis, a vehicle-bus card, a PXI module driven by a vendor library. TestFlow calls these special instruments, and they are not second-class.

  • You configure it like any instrument, including its modules or slots.
  • The agent adds it to workflows with descriptive action names such as Connect Channel with a slot and a channel.
  • The codegen agent writes an actual driver module implementing those actions, which ships in Script/instruments/ in your package.
  • The driver is validated before it is accepted, and shown to you for approval before it first touches hardware.
